A steel framework construction with the dimensions of approximately 40 m x 12,5 m. The completion is planned for fall 2007.
The system is designed as a longitudinal framework that is supported by a concrete construction made out of a stair and a basement.
The construction looks as if it is floating. This effect wants to show the difference to the authentic buildings of the concentration camp. The information center seems to be floating over the ground, because the construction is placed on three supports. It enables the visitors to get an impression of the historical situation.
Because of its ground view and materials, it creates a room with 2 functions:
The displacement of 3 service boxes creates an open, well formed room, which on the one hand can be divided into an area where visitors can get more information about the model of the camp and on the other hand into a coffee shop or bookshop which enables the visitor to collect reflections of the time and where he can relax.
The visual orientation of this building corresponds to its division, on the one hand to the authentic camp and forecourt and on the other hand to the lake and memorial.
