Auto Fabrics Edge/Support
The Auto Fabrics on Edge/Support tool helps you automatically add structural fabric areas to slab edges or over support elements, along with the corresponding fabric detailing symbol. It supports your design requirements by letting you select the appropriate fabric types and apply them to the edges/supports directly within existing views. This functionality helps you meet specific edge reinforcement widths with greater control and accuracy throughout your modeling workflow.
How to Use the Command
To use the Auto Fabrics Edge/Support command, navigate to the PowerPack Rebar Ribbon. Here, locate the Create Reinforcement Panel and within this panel, you will find the Auto Fabrics Edge/Support tool.

Auto Fabrics on Edge/Support Functionality
Follow these simple steps:
- In a 2D view, activate the tool and choose the placement type: on slab edge or over support elements.
- Configure the fabric area and tag properties in the dialog.
- Based on your selection in Step 1, select a floor or foundation slab, then choose the corresponding edge or supporting element.
- Press the Enter key to generate fabrics for all selected edges/supporting elements.
Features of the Auto Fabrics for Edge/Support Dialog Box
The intuitive configuration window makes it easy to customize fabric settings, allowing quick adjustments to several key parameters.

Control Window
1. Fabrics on
This section allows you to choose where and how fabric areas will be added – either along slab edges or over support elements:
- Support – by selecting an element
Add fabric areas over supports by first selecting the slab, then the supporting elements.
- Support – by drawing a line
Add fabric areas over supports by first selecting the slab, then drawing lines where the fabrics should be placed.
- Edge – by selecting an edge of a slab
Add fabric areas along specific slab edges by first selecting the slab, then clicking each edge individually.
- Edge – by selecting a slab
Add fabric areas along all slab edges at once by simply selecting the slab.
2. Fabric Area
This section is designed to specify the properties of the structural fabric areas that will be added on edges/supports:
- Width
Defines the width of the structural fabric area.
- Structural Fabric Area
Defines the type of the structural fabric area.
- Fabric Sheet
Defines the type of the fabric sheet.
- Location
Defines the location of the fabric sheet in the host slab: top, bottom, or top and bottom.
- Additional Cover Offset – Top
Define an additional offset applied to the outside face of the top fabric sheet
- Additional Cover Offset – Bottom
Define an additional offset applied to the outside face of the bottom fabric sheet
- Lap Splice Position
Defines the position of the major or minor lap-splices. Choose from the available default Revit lap splice options.
- Major/Minor Lap Splice Length
Defines the distance of the overlap between fabric sheets in both the major and minor directions.
- Major Direction
Defines the major direction of the fabric areas relative to the selected edge or support. Choose between ‘Normal to the edge/support’ - the direction is perpendicular to the edge/support, or ‘Parallel to the edge/support’ - the direction is parallel to the edge/support.
3. Fabric Tag
This section helps you choose the structural fabric area tag that will be added to the created fabric areas. You can choose between one of the two available options:
- Apply Fabric Area Symbol
Adds the Powerpack fabric detailing symbol to all created fabric areas in the current view. If the view does not have an applied View Template, this option will automatically uncheck the ‘Boundary’ and ‘Fabric wire’ subcategories under the ‘Structural Fabric Reinforcement’ category in Visibility Graphics.
- Apply Fabric Reinforcement Symbol and Tag
Adds Revit’s native fabric reinforcement symbol and tag to all created fabric sheets. When this option is selected, you can choose the symbol and tag types from the dropdown menus, based on those loaded in the project.
4. Options
- Edge Offset
This option enables the possibility to create the boundary of the fabric area with an offset from the floor edge.
