If you want to provide the column with bottom starter bars, first the desired option must be selected from the drop-down list at the top of the Longitudinal dialog box:
The Bottom Starter Bars Longitudinal dialog box
General Settings
No starter bars: if selected, the options in this dialog are greyed-out.
Additional starter bars (main + secondary): the starter bars will be obtained extending all the longitudinal bars in the column if the starter bars concrete cover is equal to the concrete cover of the column longitudinal bars. If the concrete cover of the starter bars is different, a set of individual starter bars will be generated, having the same properties as the column longitudinal reinforcement (diameter, number, etc.).
Example:
Additional starter bars (main): the starter bars will be obtained by extending only the main longitudinal bars in the column if the starter bars concrete cover is equal to the concrete cover of the column longitudinal bars. If the concrete cover of the starter bars is different, a set of individual starter bars will be generated, having the same properties as the column main longitudinal reinforcement (diameter, number, etc.).
Example:
Example:
Additional starter bars according to minimum reinforcement percentage: if selected, the minimum reinforcement area recommended in EN-1992-1-1 will be used to generate the column starter bars.
Additional starter bars according to imposed required area: if selected, the option Imposed reinforcement area becomes active.
Additional starter bars according to imposed diameters: if selected, the options Main starter bars diameter and Secondary starter bars diameter become active.
Imposed reinforcement area: defines the theoretical reinforcement area of the starter bars; the value is limited to 150 cm2.
Example:
Main starter bars diameter: defines the diameter for the main reinforcement of the bottom starter bars.
Secondary starter bars diameter: defines the diameter for the secondary reinforcement of the bottom starter bars.
Example:
L-shaped starter bars: select this option if you want to create L-shaped starter bars in column connected beams. The option requires beams adjacent to all four column edges. Available only for square or rectangular column shapes.
Example:
L-shaped starter bars orientation: select this option where you want to create L-shaped starter bars in the column:
- Interior: when checked the hooks will be oriented towards the interior of the elements.
- Exterior: when checked the hooks will be oriented towards the exterior of the elements.
Provide bottom hooks: select this option to provide hooks for the bottom part of the starter bars.
Provide safety links: select this option to provide safety links when the starter bars cannot be provided with hooks.
Consider the starter bars in the rebar list: select this option to specify if the top starter bars are taken into account in the rebar list and bill of quantities.
Bars Length
Bars length: allows deciding how to determine the length of starter bars.
Imposed bars length: define the maximum length between bars.
Seismic effects length reduction: define the reduction factor for the anchorage length, when seismic effects are considered in the design.
Non-seismic effects length reduction: define the reduction factor for the anchorage length, when seismic effects are not considered in the design.
Footing height: specify a height for the footing located under this column.
In the case of Transversal reinforcement, you have the option to select if the lower starter bars are provided or not with links.
The Bottom Starter Bars Transversal dialog box
The transversal bars' position can be chosen from the following options:
- Bottom: if selected, the lower starter bars are provided with links in the bottom part.
- Top: if selected, the lower starter bars are provided with links in the top part.
- Bottom and top: if selected, the lower starter bars are provided with links on the entire length.
Spacing: define the spacing of the transverse reinforcement for the lower starter bars
Diameter: define the diameter of the transverse reinforcement for the lower starter bars
Consider links in bar schedule: select this option to take into account the lower starter bars in the Bar schedule and the bill of quantities.
