Groups of Loads (Traffic Load Case)

 

The simultaneity of the loading systems defined in EN-1991-2 4.3.2 (Load Model 1), 4.3.3 (Load Model 2) and the loads defined in section 5 for footways should be taken into account by considering the groups of loads defined in EN-1991-2 Table 4.4a. Each of these groups of loads, which are mutually exclusive, should be considered as defining a characteristic action for combination with non-traffic loads.

According to Table 4.4a from EN 1991-2, group 1a (gr1a) consists of:

- Load Model 1 with its characteristic values;

- The uniformly distributed load on footways with its combination value.

“Characteristic values” means that we are using αQiQik, αqiqik and αqrqrk for Load Model 1. The “combination value” for footways and cycle tracks is given in the National Annex.

Uniformly distributed load (5.3.2.1)

For road bridges supporting footways or cycle tracks, a uniformly distributed load qfk should be defined.

The characteristic qfk value may be defined in the National Annex or for the individual project.

Group 1b (gr1b) consists of Load Model 2 with its characteristic values (according to Table 4.4a - Assessment of groups of traffic loads (characteristic values of the multi-component action, EN 1991-2).

 

Group 2 (gr2) is composed from Load Model 1 + Braking and acceleration forces + Centrifugal forces.

Group 3 (gr2 (Footway or cycle track loads))

Before this type of loads is generated, the user needs to define at least one traffic lane as a footway.

Group 4 (gr4 (LM4 - Crowd loading))

The loads will be generated on footways and traffic panels. Thus, if the user wants crowd loading outside footways, he must generate traffic panels.
