Once the timber calculation is completed, the timber design expert performs an optimization of the elements shape, according to the settings made in the timber design settings dialog box. The timber expert compares the work ratio of the timber elements with the specified criterion, and proposes other cross sections that would correspond to the defined conditions. You can accept globally or partially the suggested shapes, then relaunch the timber calculation. You can iterate these operations until you obtain a work ratio comprised in the specified range for all timber shapes.

Follow these steps to apply the optimized shapes:

Timber Suggested Shapes dialog
by element: When an element is under or over sized, the timber expert suggests more suitable shapes. The shapes are listed by the element's ID.
by section: The selected operation is applied to all the elements with the same cross section. The elements with variable inertia are ignored.
by design template: The selected operation is applied to all the elements defined by the same design template.
by name: The selected operation is applied to all the elements with the same name.
per system: The selected operation is applied to all the elements within the system.

The table content is filtered according to the selected option, and elements with a higher or lower work ratio than specified in the Timber design settings dialog box are displayed in red.
By using the timber shapes optimization feature, you can refine your timber design to meet specified criteria, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with design standards. This iterative process allows for precise adjustments, ultimately improving the quality and reliability of your timber structures.
