Generating Pressure Loads

 

Advance Design provides an automatic pressure generator that generates ground pressure and hydrostatic pressure on planar elements.

How to automatically generate liquid pressure

This function generates internal or external pressure loads on one or several planar elements.

To define the liquid load pressure follow these steps:

 

  1. Select one or several planar elements.

 

Before generating the pressure loads, verify that the local axes of the planar elements are oriented in the same coordinate system, to obtain a correct loading.

  1. From the main menu: select Generate > Load > Pressure. The Pressure generator dialog box appears.
  2. Select the Liquid tab.
  3. Define the pressure properties:
  1. Click OK to apply.
  2. The pressure loads are automatically generated on the selected planar elements.

 

When a new load case for the pressure loads is created, a Live Loads family will be automatically created in the Project Browser, along with a Pressure load case containing the pressure loads.

How to automatically generate soil pressure

This function generates internal or external pressure loads on one or several planar elements.

To define the soil load pressure follow these steps:

  1. Select one or several planar elements.

 

Before generating the pressure loads, verify that the local axes of the planar elements are oriented in the same coordinate system, to obtain a correct loading.

 

  1. From the main menu: select Generate > Load > Pressure. The Pressure generator dialog box appears.
  2. Select the Soil tab.
  3. Click Add to insert a soil layer and define the soil properties.
  4. Select the pressure direction: internal or external.
  5. From the Load case drop-down list select the load case in which to place the pressure loads or select New to create a new case.
  6. In the Upper level altitude field, define a value for the altitude of the current layer's upper level.
  7. If soil Zones were defined in the Used soils dialog, they will be available for selection in this drop-down list.
  8. In the Soil layers table you can define the soil layer properties:
  1. Click OK to apply.
  2. The pressure loads are automatically generated on the selected planar elements.

 

When a new load case for the pressure loads is created, a Dead Loads family will be automatically created in the Project Browser, along with a Pressure load case containing the pressure loads.
