Symmetry Conditions

 

After generating the global mesh, the boundary conditions of the analysis model (i.e., symmetry conditions,  DoF restraints, DoF constraints) can be modified.

The boundary conditions may be defined on nodes or on supports. During the modeling step you may define the symmetry conditions on rigid point supports.

When the structure and its loading are symmetrical to several global coordinate planes, it is recommended to model only one part of the structure and to impose the symmetry conditions, restraining the nodes situated frontal to the symmetry plane.

The symmetry conditions command automatically generates DOFDegree of freedom: number of independent parameters that define a system's configuration. restraints on the desired symmetry plane for the selected nodes or supports.

How to create symmetry conditions on mesh nodes

  1. Select the nodes corresponding to one plane of symmetry.

  2. From the main menu: select Generate > Symmetry conditions.

  3. In the Symmetry conditions dialog box, select the symmetry plane for which to restrain the nodes:

  1. Click OK to apply.

 The DOF restraints are created on the selected nodes. You can view the created DOF restraints in the Project Browser.
