Horizontal Linear Elements

In Advance Design, horizontal linear elements are created in combination with the level settings option. This option predefines the altitude where the element will be created by allowing the input of horizontal elements only at the superior limit of the level (on Z-axis).

The level settings are defined in the system properties window. The element's position on X and Y axes can be specified by entering the coordinates in the command line or by snapping to other objects.

How to create horizontal linear elements

To create horizontal linear elements, follow these steps:

  1. In the Project Browser, select a system in which to place the element. The selected system must have the Level option enabled and the level properties (top and bottom limits) configured in the system properties window. When enabled, the structure elements can be created only within the specified level limits. The horizontal linear elements are created at the top limit of the level.
  2. On the Modeling toolbar: click Create Horizontal Linear Elements command in Advance Design (click and hold dropdown list).
  3. Configure the element attributes in the properties window.
  4. Click in the graphic area to define the XY coordinates of the first extremity of the element (or enter the XY coordinates in the command line).
  5. Click again to define the end extremity of the element.

Example

Creating a horizontal linear element on the 2nd level of a structure:

  1. In the Project Browser, create a system and name it (ex: 2nd Level). See Creating systems.

  2. Click the system to access its Properties window.

  1. On the Modeling toolbar: click Create Horizontal Linear Elements command in Advance Design (click and hold dropdown list).

  2. Click in the graphic area to define the XY coordinates of the first extremity of the element. The cursor snaps automatically to the Z axis where the top limit of the level is defined. See Using snap modes.

  3. Click again to define the end extremity of the element.
