Beams Calculation

 

Advance Design performs specific concrete design calculations considering the element type (beam or column) and gives access to longitudinal and transverse reinforcement distribution results for each beam.

The program offers the most suitable distribution solution. Based on this reinforcement distribution, the "Cracked section inertia" coefficient is calculated.

The detailed calculation of beams reinforcement must be enabled in the Calculation Settings dialog box - Calculation sequence tab.

To consider a linear concrete element as a beam, during the reinforced concrete calculation, it is necessary to specify the element type in the corresponding properties window. Tick Enabled in the To calculate field.

When the reinforced concrete calculation is completed, you have access to longitudinal and transverse reinforcement distribution results for each beam.

To view the automatically obtained reinforcement solution for a beam:
  1. Select the beam and access the properties window.

  2. In the Design category > Beam calculation > Reinforcement > Modification, click .

  3. The Modification of longitudinal reinforcement bars dialog box appears. The most suitable reinforcement distribution solution is displayed.

Tip

Click any point along the abscissa to view the corresponding values for the reinforcement.

To modify the reinforcement solution:

The reinforcement solution can be redefined by the user.

  1. Select the beam and access the properties window.

  2. In the Design category > Beam calculation > Reinforcement > Modification, click . The Modification of longitudinal reinforcement bars dialog box appears.

  3. Access the Bottom reinforcement, Top reinforcement, Bars on left support and Bars on right support tabs and modify the reinforcement distribution by adding or deleting reinforcement layers along the beam, defining the  number of bars and their diameter, define the limiting distances of the reinforcement bars and also the shape of the anchorages, etc.

  4. Access the Transverse bars tab to define the formwork properties.

  5. Enable the Imposed values option so the defined values will be taken into account at the calculation of the cracked section inertia coefficient.

  6. Click Reinforcement calculation to launch the calculation considering the new settings. During the calculation, the serviceability verifications (stresses and cracks) are performed considering the new defined reinforcement values.
