Advance Steel 2009
On November 1st 2008 GRAITEC launched the latest version of Advance Steel: 2009
Developed for steel construction companies and design offices, Advance Steel is a software for steel structural modeling (profiles and connections) that automatically creates general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, bill of materials and NC files. Advance is integrated in the AutoCAD® platform.

What’s new in Advance Steel 2009
The 2009 version focuses on 3 main themes:
- Collaborative work for users simultaneously working on the same model;
- Security and speed improvements;
- Productivity increase.
1. Collaborative work
With our unique "Model Share" technology, GRAITEC brings exclusive innovation to CAD technology in the field of steelwork construction enabling users to simultaneously and securely work together on the same model.
Each member of a project team has access to a master model and can check-out the elements they need to work on. In addition, users get real-time notifications enabling them to identify which parts of the model are being worked on by other members, truly coordinating the project. Areas of the model that have been checked-out by other members are always available in a read-only mode. When the work is done, users have the ability to "publish" their work back to the master model, thus making it instantly accessible to other members, guaranteeing secure data protection.
Advanced features such as "partial loading" are also available to enable users to work on assemblies without the need to extract all associated elements. GRAITEC’s "Model Share" technology is a truly collaborative engineering solution that ensures fast modeling for Advance Steel 2009 users, providing an efficient, productive and secure organization solution.
2. Enhanced security (and speed) performances
Advance Steel 2009 is the only CAD solution for steelwork construction that features continuous updating of all NC-DSTV file indexes since it permanently gives information about the document status and validity. This functionality was previously available for drawings (general arrangement drawings, detail drawings) but has been extended to all documents: drawings, material lists and NC files.
Advance Steel 2009 users are permanently informed which drawings need to be re-issued depending on your projects’ modifications.
3. Enhanced functionalities aimed at increasing productivity
Advance Steel 2009 also includes many other enhancements to improve the quality of drawings automatically created from the model.Main improvements:
- Automatic dimensions of saw-cuts on fabrication drawings;
- List of saw-cuts parts with integrated images;
- Ability to modify both dimensions and view depth on drawing viewports;
- Automatic dimensions of environment parts;
- Improved automatic placement of dimensions;
- The addition of various wizard commands for automatic assemblies.

Installation requirements
To successfully install Advance Steel certain requirements have to be met:

- PC with Pentium Processor min. 2 GHz (4 GHz recommended)
- Main memory min. 2 GB
- AutoCAD® compatible graphics-card (for more information, see: http://www.autodesk.com/autocad-graphicscard)
- Min. 1 GB free disk space on the hard disk
- Network adapter
- DVD Drive
Software:
- Operating system Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit version)
- Auto-CAD® 2007, ADT 2007, AutoCAD® 2008, AutoCAD® Architecture 2008, AutoCAD® 2009 or AutoCAD® Architecture 2009
- TCP / IP Protocol
Distribution:
- Advance is delivered on DVD
- The license file is delivered by e-mail.
Advance Steel certifications
DSTV
GRAITEC is an active member of the DSTV standard association and our software creates NC code that is 100% compatible with most North American (and worldwide) machinery manufacturers. The following manufacturers have confirmed their full compliance to the DSTV standard and are cooperating with us to further streamline the design to fabrication process.
KISS
Also Advance Steel users can use KISS (“Keep It Simple, Steel”) files to transfer data from the model and the bill of material to fabrication management software.
EDI
Among other supported solutions, Advance Steel is certified by FABTROL and directly supports EJE Industries Structural Material Manager's EDI format without conversion.
Microsoft
Advance Steel has received the following Microsoft certifications, after being tested with Microsoft Platform Test for ISV Software Solutions, conducted by VeriTest, a testing service of Lionbridge Technologies:
- Microsoft Client and MS Office certification, since version 7.1
- SQL Server certification, since version 2009
Advance Steel compliancy
100% AutoCAD®! Advance Steel uses Object ARX to its fullest potential. This advanced Autodesk technology provides users with professional objects such as beams, columns, bars perfectly integrated into AutoCAD® on which most standard functions can be applied (copy, paste, extend, trim, stretch, etc.). The native file format of Advance suites is a 100% Autodesk compliant DWG file that may be used on any AutoCAD® station.
GRAITEC is an ADN (Autodesk Application Developer) since 1997 and a UAR (Unique Application Reseller) since 2001.
