Answer

In Advance Design there is a faster way of naming newly created loads (point, linear or planar loads) or connections depending on the element to which they belong.

As an example we will assume that we have created the structure in Figure 1. The columns and the beams are made of steel, while the slabs are made of reinforced concrete. For an easier identification, the elements are grouped in systems, according to their role in the structure (Figure 2).

Two families of load cases are defined: one for self-weight of elements and another one for live loads.

The live loads are created on the slabs. Generation of loadings having the name depending on the element to which they belong can be done automatically by using the "Loads / selection" option, and then by using the "*" symbol in the loading name component (Figure 3).

Example: If the slabs are named "ground floor slab" and "1st floor slab", by naming the loading "Live load *" then 2 planar loads will be created: "Live load ground floor slab" and "Live load 1st floor slab".

Note 1: A similar procedure will be used when we want to create loadings on linear elements with names depending on the element to which they belong.

Note 2: The "Loads / selection" option can be accessed through a right click in the workspace.

Generating connections with names depending on the main element of the connection can be done automatically by using the "Connections > Create / selection" option and then by using the "*" symbol in the loading name component (Figure 4).

Example: If we want to create the base plate connection for the following columns : A1, A2, B1, B2, then by naming the connection "Base plate *" four such connections will be made with the following names: "Base plate column A1", "Base plate column A2", "Base plate column B1" and "Base plate column B2" (see Figure 4).
