GRAITEC Products: CAD and Design Software for the Construction Industry
After a very successful 2011 (+12% TO Growth), GRAITEC exceeds end of Q2 2012, turnover, margin and profitability expectations, positioning itself as the industry's fastest growing company.

The GRAITEC Advance Suite, the global structural BIM solution for construction professionals, has achieved during H1 2012 an amazing growth of +34% compared to 2011.

"This is a great performance that demonstrates the growth capacity of GRAITEC solutions but also their fit to the market, customer needs and BIM environment. I'd like to highlight the fact that this growth is driven by the international GRAITEC subsidiaries such as North America and Asia Pacific", comments Alexandre Tartas, GRAITEC COO.

Advance Steel, after a strong 40% growth during Q1 2012, continues on an even more positive trend growing by 60.,6% during Q2. Every territory has contributed to this success.

Dimensions: 180m x 85m x 52m
Total Build Cost: Woolwich Central - Phase 1 & 2 £400m
Specification: 80,000 sq. ft. Tesco superstore, various other retail units and 259 homes over 17 stories

TSI Structures undertook the challenge of modeling a 17 story, post tensioned concrete structure for connecting secondary steel to a major new supermarket complex in Woolwich, UK. The 80,000 sq. ft. Tesco superstore, various other retail units and 259 homes over 17 stories was a total build cost of £400m. The store opening date was set before construction started, so they were under pressure to complete the project to a tight deadline.

Advance Steel allowed TSI Structures to model concrete slabs, walls and beams. They were able to model the cast in channels, and using Advance Steel meant these elements came across onto the drawings. The DWG file format aided in the approval process.

Adrian Betts, TSI Structures limited, says: "We would not have been able to produce this building in 3D without Advance Steel's ability to model external elements such as concrete. We were the only member of the construction team with the ability, software resources and technical knowhow, to fully model the enormous concrete structure in three dimensions. Our model and the 3D drawings were used by the Architect for client presentations. With the AutoCAD base this enabled us to add different material renders to the concrete surfaces creating a more realistic and aesthetically pleasing model."
 
MULTI MATERIAL PEDESTRIANS/CYCLES BRIDGE – LEGRAND, Annonay, France
Founded in 1956, LEGRAND is involved in the field of railway engineering, metalwork and signage industries throughout France for over 50 years. Currently, LEGRAND employs about 200 people and is using 4 Advance Steel licenses in its Steel Construction Department in the Quincieux site (Dpt 69).

The project described here is a pedestrians/cycles footbridge (situated in the South-East of France).

This steel footbridge with 40.30m straight span consists of a mixed steel/wood frame and a concrete floor on HEA 200 beams spaced every 3.40m.

The supporting structure is made up of 2 tapered glue-laminated arches 48cm apart and braced with steel parts. The latter are associated to the level of the deck with 2 lateral steel beams of constant height and connected vertically by two transverse V shaped steel stays (welded plates steel profile stays). The total weight of the structure is 32 tons.

GRAITEC is now an Associate member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC):

GRAITEC is now an Associate member of the Australian Steel Institute (ASI).

The ASI works to increase the awareness of the benefits of steel and promote Australian made steel as the material of choice. Increasing the competitiveness of the Australian steel industry and its member companies is central to that vision. Technical advice is available to members. Services include a library and resource centre from which information and advice are available from a wide range of overseas and local publications. The 'Steel Australia' magazine is published by the ASI.
 
 
User testimonial: customizing a BOM template

With Advance Steel, it is possible to automatically obtain a list of all beams with saw cuts using the "Saw cut list with explicit pictures" template delivered by default.

Any user can also customize list templates, and this is what was done by Mr. Rasquier, steel detailer at Ets J-C Fassler and user of the Advance Steel software:

"The ease of use of the BOM editor allowed me to adapt the template for beams with saw cuts according to our exact workshop's wishes. I was able to customize this list by modifying the text font, adding bold frames around the cells, inserting symbols for the units and the degrees and by indicating the angle and length for all beams with saw cut and also with straight cuts; all this customization took less than one hour and was easy to achieve using the "Preview" integrated into the BOM editor."

Tip of the Month : How are joints grouped in Advance Steel?

Note: This option is available starting with version 2012
How are joints grouped in Advance Steel?
Joint grouping is a new option that will save you time in configuring joints. When the master joint is changed, the slave joints, which are subordinates of the master joint, are changed automatically.

In a model, you can apply several times the same joint with identical parameters.

First create the master joint. The connection between the master joint and the slave joints is made through the name that the master joint receives, on the first page of the properties window.

The name for the master joint must be unique. The slave joints receive the same name automatically.

How are joints grouped in Advance Steel?

After the master joint is created, start the creation of the slave joints, which are dependent on the master joint. The slave joints are created with the "Create by template, as Slave" command on the Ribbon.

After the creation of the slave joints, the master joint can be configured. The configurations made in the master joint are also applied automatically to the slave joints.

The master and slave joints can be searched and marked with the filter.

In the filter there is a search option that helps you find only the master joint, only the slave joints or both. This filter marks only the joint box.
